Atomic+ News

Hey everybody,
Hope there is still some people following me here on the blog as it have been long time since I wrote anything new but don’t worry I was away this time working on my new games. If anyone follows me on twitter (@amidos2006) he would probably know the running projects and he probably know that I have been working on Atomic+ for more than a month nearly two months.

I was aiming this year to submit Crappy Dreams as usual to IGF 2014 but I didn’t work on it as I wanted finish Atomic+ very fast and show the beta version to the public because I was going to show it at A Maze Festival at Johannesburg and also at Gamer’s Day in Riyadh.

Atomic+ got nice impression from Gamer’s Day and A Maze Festival but I couldn’t collect as much feedback on it in A Maze festival because it was viewed at a place called iLounge where it was far from Alex Theater (main place) where PC/Console are shown so hardly any person come to iLounge and all head to Alex Theater except for the launching day where the launch was on the top of the iLounge and I saw people loving my game and love it a lot and I got some really nice feedback where it cause to improve the game. Also I gave a talk there called “be Different” will post it here soon and hope to do it at another place too.

My Presentation

In Gamer’s Day I didn’t attend because it was impossible to get VISA to get to Saudi Arabia before pilgrim season so my musician Agent Whiskers went to the Gamer’s Day and we rocked there (I was wishing I was there) lots of people loved it and Agent Whiskers got interviewed by Arabic interview from GM-Moster

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwcf4MJoI_o

Here some of the feedback that the game had at Gamer’s Day

Also who follows me on twitter knows by now that I am working on an iOS version for my game Match a Number as I found it is easy to port to iOS and won’t need a lot of extra effort. When I showed the game to Danny Day (Head of QCF team) in South Africa he loved it a lot and suggested to me lots of improvements that made the game stands out now 🙂 Since I always wanted to submit to IGF so I have to think which game to submit since Crappy Dreams was not finished yet so I have now two options either new Match a Number or Atomic+.

I chose Atomic+ for the IGF this year (YAAAAAAAAAY) I hope I have done the right decision for that 🙂 I was wondering about how to pay the 95$ the entry fee and a friend of mine Tom (Founder of KintoGames) paid them for me as a gift and I am so so happy because I didn’t know how to pay them (because I don’t have much money)

Because of that I have made a trailer for Atomic+ and launched the website for it (Check the website)

That’s everything for now I have more and more news but I will post them on time (I hope nothing delays me more). Stay tuned for more news in the upcoming week about Match a Number launching so stay tuned.

Snazzle+ (IndieDev Grant)

Hey All,

I have been fascinated by my game Snazzle since I have released it and I loved to expand that idea and make version for iOS and Android as the game suites very well with touch devices so I thought I should expand it but when I have money and time.

When I heard the Bundle in a Box will launch IndieDev Grant soon, so I though it might be a good idea to participate even if I don’t get the Grant its a nice way to get some exposure to my game Snazzle+.

Will start to work on that game soon. Don’t worry and I will try to make it in the best way ever and may be I can submit it to IGF next year 🙂

That’s everything for now. Stay tuned for launch of small art game I have made in 24 hours in GameTako Zanga (Middle East Game Jam).

News…Dreams…Experiments…Competitions…Results

Hi All,
I didn’t write here long time and I only wrote when it is a new game announcement 🙂 but there was lots of things happening before that silence and I didn’t have time to tell you about its results or what happened (because I am a bit busy and lazy :S) so I decided today to write about all missing things here.

First thing is about my collaboration game “Alone in the Park” that has been in-development since ever (even before starting on Clean’Em Up) but its now 99% finished just small polishing stuff and will be ready for beta testing and after 2 weeks in testing in that time we will seek for sponsorship for the game (Hope to get a cool deal as the game is nice and we put a lot of work in it) and then the release 🙂 Since we didn’t say a lot of details about the game so I made a trailer (it is intended to be funny and don’t show anything about the story) Hope you like it 🙂

I think showing a trailer for Alone in the Park is a nice start to the blog and I hope some of you are excited about the game to be coming out 🙂

In the past few months some of my games got featured so here are the articles if you are interested to read 🙂 (KillScreenDaily: Kabba) (IndieGames: Clean’Em Up) (IndieGame Magazine: Clean’Em Up) (IndieCade: Clean’Em Up) (Oddities: Connect).

I am sure if any of you following me on twitter(@amidos2006) he probably known about all these in time (even the trailer;)).

About my LudumDare 24 Game (Collect) I didn’t post here or any where about the results or what happened to it so here is the results

  • #98 Innovation: 3.56
  • #148 Overall 3.41
  • #152 Theme 3.49
  • #179 Fun 3.19
  • #254 Audio 2.75
  • #280 Mood 2.80
  • #300 Graphics 3.11
  • #493 Humor 1.76

As you can see it is better than Don’t Push the Button results but that doesn’t mean its better than Don’t Push the Button at all, what makes this game better in results that I cared to make lots of people vote for me (that’s by voting for lots of other people games (which I didn’t do in the last LudumDare)) so the overall results of Collect became better (although if you played both games you will find that Don’t Push the Button is better than Collect (in my view ;))).

I am happy with the results and I don’t regret that I have done that game (although on the delivery day I was totally upset and thought the idea is stupid and boring but I think it turns out nicely :)).

Do you remember the game called Find it! that I made in 8 hours with Alexitron just as experiment for FGL to see if short games get sponsorship quicker than long games?, and I think I was correct in the debate with Alexitron that the length of the game doesn’t depend at all for getting a fast sponsorship but the quality of the game and how fun it is overall make the sponsoring the game faster and what makes The Power doesn’t get a good sponsorship deal(money) as you can’t understand the game and assess it depending on 2 mins or 3 mins playing at least you need to play it for 7 or 10 mins at least before giving it a score (I think it is a silly mistake and we could avoid it by more help from communities to market it or sending direct emails to sponsors (I have done that with The Power but I think my email is marked as spam for sponsors as no one replied on me which is weird)).

So we put Find It! now on Gameshop on FGL and if it doesn’t sell in the gameshop we will release it as a kids game made in 8 hours 🙂

About my latest game Balls as I said before its a prototype of a huge game called “All my Balls” and we will start it if the prototype succeeded but that doesn’t happen as the prototype only got few views (3k compared to my other games) and low rating (3/5 compared to my other games) some may say that may consider as a success for the prototype (yes its true if not compared to my other games :D) and since this game is nice so I decided to continue on larger version (Isn’t being indie cool ;D but it won’t be so huge nor short, you can say a moderate commercial game and if it succeeded will release an update with more content) so this will be our second Omidos commercial game (I think;)).

Snayke is an amazing game by Alex Szpakowski since I loved the game feeling and his retake on classic snake game, I decided to make a tribute game. While I was playing this game and I got an idea for Snake game in a puzzle form and will call it Snazzle hope I start on it to finish it soon (Experimental game so you don’t put aim for long gameplay session) during that time waiting for my new game I recommend you go and grab a copy of Snayke and play it 🙂 you can try the demo if you want before you buy the game 😉 here is the trailer of the game

Last thing on this post is that I wish one day I can participate in the IGF every year I wish that but I didn’t make a game that I think worth submitting. Every year at that time when I see lots of amazing games and talented indie developers submitting their games to the IGF I feel jealous and want to make a game worth submitting ;). At now time the only one game idea I think is worth submitting will be Robotic Arm but it will need to be larger and better which will be called Robotic Arm Plus 😉 but it is too early to say anything about it ;).

That’s everything for now 😉 and sorry for the long post 😉

Huge Chunk of News

Hi All,

I am totally sorry for long not updating the Blog but I was so busy and I had lots of work and exams till now I am too busy but I managed to sneak with some little time to write a large and nice blog 🙂

First news if anyone noticed that PaceMaker FP changed from InDev to Complete Games and now waiting for Sponsorshipping.

Since I have evolved in the community of FGL to Level2 so they gave me 5 First Impression to use I was pretty confident from my game from developper feedback (take a look) here are some of the feedback:

“Awesome game!

One thing I would suggest, is that you make it clearer that the Asynchronous Virus is the easier one to start with (in my opinion at least). I was a bit consfused about the difference between the two at first.

Also, you might want to integrate some sort of tutorial or learning level. The beginning was a bit too hard for me becauseI didn’t get the mechanic until about my third or fourth restart.”
“Good work man, this is a really solid game. Some may disagree, but I love the grayscale-with-hints-of-red aesthetic. I especially like the guy that talks to you in the tutorial, and the way you slide out your text.

The gameplay is fun and unique. One thing that was a little rough for me was the lack of immediate feedback when a node ran out of bullets. You might want to consider adding a tone when a node’s bullets are depleted, or even have it fire blanks.

Thanks – this was fun.”

and other nice feedback their 🙂

So I was confident that I will get nice FIs when I use them here are the FIs:

Ease of Use: 10/10

The game is easy to figure out without the lengthy tutorial. The goal and how to achieve it are clear.

Fun: 8/10

I’d rather have some mindless active shootem up game than have to depend on a sense of timing so much.

Graphics: 9/10

I like the shock effects during the tutorial. I’m not a big fan of black and white so I’d add color.

Sound: 10/10

The music is fun to listen to. The game sounds are dramatic, but sparse.

Polish: 8/10

The tutorial is way too long. It was hard for me to be successful so I quickly lost interest.

Custom Question:

I like the shock sound and shake effects. I’d have a much shorter tutorial. I’d have an editor proof the text, there are some errors in grammar (lifes, failures, it’s, etc.).

—————————–

Ease of Use: 5/10

This game has a few menu quirks. The intro forces you to hit the skip button instead of just going into the main menu when you’ve read everything. The tutorial didn’t seem to let me shoot anything either. I had to exit out of it and go into a game.

Fun: 7/10

This is a cool idea and well executed, but I couldn’t seem to last more than like ten seconds in a game. Maybe I’m just really bad at this.

Graphics: 7/10

The graphics are simple and computer-y, but I really like them. They fit the theme well. The way the menu text unfolds itself is cool too.

Sound: 9/10

Sounds are good. Loud explosions, fast paced energetic music. Perfect. Sound effects are almost as good. I would have liked my little zapper to sound more zappery. I know that’s not helpful, but then the sound is about as good as it can get.

Polish: 5/10

The look and feel of this game is almost perfect. It controls pretty well too. However, maybe it is just me, but it seemed to hard.

Custom Question:

The look and sound of this game is perfect. It fits the theme, which is cool too. I just had trouble playing the game. maybe the rotor thing on the virus needs to spin faster? I died very quickly every time I played. It is a cool, good looking game, though, and a good concept.

—————————–

Ease of Use: 3/10

its very hard to shoot because its going very slowly

Fun: 3/10

the game is very difficult because of the shooting factor

Graphics: 5/10

graphics are to basic, and targets aren’t much appealing

Sound: 7/10

I liked the music, it is motivating

Polish: 7/10

the shooting thing has to be improved because it makes the game very hard.

Custom Question:

this game can be very fun, if they fix the shooting

the music its cool and graphics are well designed.

—————————–

Ease of Use: 1/10

I read all the instructions and the back story and I couldn’t get past the tutorial…do you shoot the white circle moving around the circle that shoots or was something else suppoed to show up for me to shoot? I don’t get it.

Fun: 3/10

Maybe if I understood how to play it would be more fun but I can’t ssay I enjoyed this one just moving around a blank screen and trying to figure out what to shoot.

Graphics: 5/10

the graphics are just ok.

Sound: Sound Off

no advice

Polish: 5/10

I can’t tell if the game is polished or not because I actually don’t know if something else was supposed to attack me or what. So maybe it was broken or maybe I couldn’t figure it out.

Custom Question:

Hate to say it, but I didn’t experience anything good about the game because I couldn’t figure out what to do- even after reading all the info. The tutorial focused more on the story than what to do so more help is needed here.

—————————–

Ease of Use: 3/10

This game has too much text, I read it because I have to, you’re paying me for this, but any other player would just skip it. And even as I read it it’s still to hard to play this game, everything else on the screen has an enourmous advantage on the player.

Fun: 3/10

Running out of ammo constantly isn’t my idea of fun in a shooter game, it doesn’t make it more complicated, just makes it annoying.

Graphics: 5/10

Graphics look ok, but the lack of colors is really tiresome.

Sound: 10/10

I have to give it to this game, the music and sound effects are really good.

Polish: 5/10

Is the game just made of one level? because I keep coming back to the first screen, this needs to have challenges for the gamer, and not just in the form of achievements, change the colors please, why black & white? I saw some red too but that’s not enough.

Custom Question:

I didn’t really like the game, it’s more text than playtime, I didn’t like that I keep running out of ammo and enemies are faster than the player. Controls aren’t as easily explained as they should be. The only thing I liked was the music and effects and the possibility that this game could be a great shooter if changed drastically.

So the overall results are

Average Ease of Use: 4.4000/10

Average Fun: 4.8000/10

Average Graphics: 6.2000/10

Average Sound: 9.0000/10

Average Polish: 6.0000/10

Average Minutes Played: 8.2000/10

As you notice that As I always said BauAir is amazing Musician and is the best thing happens in this project is knowing a talented person like him 🙂 He is very helpful and very nice person 🙂

I dont know if the game is good or bad or anything and how to improve Hope I can do something 🙂 and Hope after this negative FIs to find sponsor :S

Lets Jump to another thing which is the only InDev Game Hello World! Project Poster First Look and Some News

Hi All,

As I said before that I was working on a poster for my cousin graduation project. I don’t know If I said that or not but we agreed to make two posters for Tocco Project as It is divided into two parts (I don’t know If I said that Before but anyway Tocco project is two parts one is touch surface by fingures and the second is pen that can draw on any projected screen from a Projector)

I have worked for 2 days for now in making it and getting an idea. Yesterday I managed to make the first look on the poster

(Note: the Poster is larger than that image but because its size is so huge so I uploaded a resized version)

Hope u like it. I have lots of other news about competitions and other stuffs.

The IGF has opened the doors now for the submission so if anybody interested to join here is the (link) for students there is no fees on participation so I may join don’t know if I had time for that.

Also QOG (a user on GameJolt website) started a 2 hour competition on the forums like the ones that happens on Poppenkast where the theme is MADNESS so you have to develop a game in 2 hour to participate I want to participate but I don’t know if I can finish the game in two hours so I will try as I have a very awesome small idea. (for more information about compo here is the link)

Third and the last thing is that Experimental Games was re-opened again where every month a prototype game competition is held. This site is managed by Kyle Gabler (The Creator of World of Goo) also Petri (the Creator of Crayon Physics Deluxe). Do you know that World of Goo was created as a prototype called tower of goo on that website also Caryon Physics was the same too.

That all the news for now 🙂

Waiting for comments on the first look on the first poster 🙂
